Prof. Dr.-Ing. Rudi Knorr is Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Cognitive Systems IKS. He also holds the Chair for Communication Systems at the Faculty of Applied Computer Science at the University of Augsburg. In this position he is mainly engaged in fundamental research of future topic areas of self-organizing communication systems and Next Generation Networks.
Rudi Knorr is a member of numerous scientific associations, including the Association for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies (VDE), the Association of German Engineers (VDI), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the Competence Center for Applied Security Technology (CAST) as well as the SDL Forum Society, amongst others.
His research activities focus on self-organizing adaptive systems whose underlying methods are becoming increasingly important in the fields of connected mobility, industrial environments, especially of Industry 4.0, and smart grid communication.
He joined the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft in 1995 and took over as head of Fraunhofer ESK in 2000. He established the broadband communication area of research within the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, which he has continually expanded and developed.
He earned a doctorate with honors at the Technical University Munich in 1993.
