At the Hannover Messe, the world’s leading trade fair for the manufacturing industry, Fraunhofer IKS will be participating in a panel discussion this year. Benedikt Poggel, research engineer in the “quantum computing” department, will join other Fraunhofer researchers in discussing the potential of quantum computing.

Facing the Future: A Discussion and Reality Check on Quantum Computing Applications

Quantum computing promises a technological revolution – from solving complex optimization problems to simulating molecules for drug development. But there is often a huge gap between visionary future scenarios and today's reality. How close are we to commercially viable applications? This panel brings together experts from applied research (Fraunhofer Society) to take a critical look at the current state of quantum applications and the (economic) relevance of quantum computing. Which use cases are already tangible? Where do we really stand technologically? And what challenges still need to be overcome? The aim is to separate hype from reality and to highlight realistic perspectives regarding the applicability of quantum computing using selected examples.
