FAQ’s and application tips

  • We operate a job portal where all of our current job openings are listed. The job portal can be reached via the following link: Fraunhofer jop portal

    We ask that you please apply via the job portal only. Applications received via e-mail or the postal service unfortunately cannot be processed.

  • When you go to the job portal, you will see all of the job openings for the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft. However, you can filter the list by institute, level of experience, job function, opportunity for promotion and region. If you find an interesting opening, go the end of the description and simply click on »Apply now«. You must now create a user account. Then you can enter your data and upload documents such as cover letter, resume and certificates. The user account will allow you to log-on to the job portal during and after the application process, edit your profile and upload additional documents. After you click on the »Apply« button again at the bottom of the form, your application will automatically be sent to us. Once we get your application, you will receive a confirmation via the e-mail address that you provided.

  • At a minimum, please submit a cover letter and a complete resume. You can submit additional documents through the job portal, especially if they reinforce your qualifications for the advertised position. These documents can vary depending on the position and your training and education status. If you are still pursuing your university education for instance, then documents such as your high school diploma, current grade point average, intermediate diploma, internship references and a list of your current university/college credits are important. Young professionals and candidates for research associate positions should provide their degrees and references from previous employers. The documents should be uploaded in a non-proprietary format, ideally as a PDF, and may not exceed 50MB each.

    The cover letter is designed to underscore the career steps relevant to the advertised position and highlight your motivations for applying. It should be short and concise and not exceed one page. What’s important is that it is formulated in line with the advertised job. Develop a correlation between your past experience and the requirements outlined in the job description. Explain why you feel you are the most-qualified candidate. The cover letter should contain statements outlining the motivations behind your application and the arguments that speak for you.

  • Not at all. We have interdisciplinary research teams comprising computer scientists, electronics engineers and others with degrees in related fields. We also have positions in administrative areas for people with degrees in the social sciences, humanities or business, or for applicants who have vocational degrees. We always welcome those who enrich our institute with their own unique perspective.

    The Fraunhofer Institute for Cognitive Systems IKS is located at Heimeranplatz in the center of Munich and is easily reached by public transportation. Suburban railway lines S7 and S20, as well as underground lines U4 and U5, all stop at Heimeranplatz. In addition, there are several bus stops in the vicinity.
