    Research project launches for easy access to quantum computing for small and large companies

    In the future, quantum computers will be able to solve highly complex tasks that traditional computers have failed to do so far. In the QuaST project, which is funded by Germany’s Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Action, seven partners from science and industry are researching how to make quantum computing as easily accessible as possible for small and large companies. The aim is to provide end users with a toolbox that they can use in different situations, for example to optimize production processes, for business forecasting and also to significantly increase efficiency.

    The development of quantum computers is proceeding at a rapid pace. To utilize the potential of quantum computing for industry, the Bavarian Competence Center for Quantum Security and Data Science BayQS is researching the relevant issues to create the foundations for practical, trustworthy use. At the virtual kickoff event, Roland Weigert, Bavarian State Secretary for the Economy, emphasized the future importance of this topic for the Bavarian economy. The State of Bavaria is supporting the project with a total of 17 million euros over five years.

    Fraunhofer expands research on safety aspects of artificial intelligence

    A ceremonial event will be held on the evening of December 3 to open the new Fraunhofer Institute for Cognitive Systems IKS in Munich. Its research will focus on safety aspects of artificial intelligence: safe intelligence. The two areas of safety and intelligence are normally regarded separately but will now be combined. Fraunhofer IKS will be a central component of the State of Bavaria’s »Artificial Machine Intelligence« competence network. Six new professorships are being created for the institute’s work, including four at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). Guests of honor at the opening ceremony on the evening of December 3 will include Dr. Markus Söder, Minister-President of the State of Bavaria; State Secretary Hubert Aiwanger; Prof. Reimund Neugebauer, President of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft and Prof. Thomas F. Hofmann, President of TU Munich.
